I thought that I would spotlight a British agency that has a focus on researching and promoting literacy in Britain. The National Literacy Trust is a charity that has as its mission the promotion of literacy. The interests of the trust span both school and community literacy practices. The website of the NLT contains research reports on things like the reading lives of children, the state of literacy, the influence of e-books on reading skills, parental involvement in reading, and much much more. All of these reports are downloadable for free!
Videos and downloadable resources for teachers and librarians are another feature of the site. The range and scope of the site is fabulous and it certainly provides many different pathways towards promoting literacy that can be adapted in other contexts.
